USA made apparel manufacturer seeks a clothing innovator & technical designer. Located in St. Paul, MN our team of 25 staff produces sewn goods for a variety of companies large and small. CDS is a leader and advocate for bringing apparel production back to the USA. This position is responsible coming up with innovative apparel and softgood designs for various brands. They are to execute the designs in tech flats and give good direction on paneling and construction methods. They also need to be able to create full tech packs with quality control parameters and grade rules applied. The variety of products is vast! Candidate should enjoy working on functional apparel and highly technical designs. 2 years technical design experience required. This includes general knowledge of grading, construction methods, and flat sketching.
The day to day managerial duties will include:
Research in various apparel categories
Coming up with design options and solutions for functional apparel
Flat sketching in Adobe Illustrator
Create Spec Sheets for various soft good products
Desired Areas of General Knowledge: Tech Designer

Construction Methods
Fabric knowledge in both knits and wovens
Required skills & knowledge:

Job Description for Pattern Maker- This position is responsible for creating patterns and evaluating samples for fit and construction. They are to determine production friendly methods of constructing softgoods for made in the USA, while keeping the overall design and high quality. Candidate must be an excellent problem solver with the ability to think of creative solutions. 1 year pattern making experience required. This includes general knowledge of grading, construction methods, and industrial machinery.
The day to day duties will include:
Follow project time lines and sequences
Create Patterns using Optitex
Alter Patterns
Guidance in Fit Sessions
Creating Custom Body Measurement Charts for Various Brands
Communication with Project Managers
Communication with Prototype Sewers
Making Recommendations for Pattern or Sewing improvements Based on Fit or Efficiency in Sewing
Evaluation on Sample Garments

Job Description for Apparel Designer and Product Manager Assistant- This position assists a Design Manager, which is a unique hybrid position of product development and project management. In this position, the design manager assistant helps guide our private label clients through the CDS 4-step apparel development process. This person works with our internal team to develop products for external client private label brands. The variety of different soft good items range from athletic apparel and medical to children’s and accessories. Communicate with clients directly to provide expertise on the design and development process and communicate with our internal teams to execute project. Each client will have different seasonality and different timelines so ability to manage big picture with several different deadlines is a must. Candidate must be an excellent communicator and great at developing relationships with clients.
The day to day managerial duties will include:
Assist design manager in meetings with external private label clients to gather project information, feedback and present CDS deliveries
Assist with internal raw materials sourcing team to acquire fabrics and trims
Assist with internal technical design team to illustrate product to meet client vision
Assist with internal pattern making team to develop garment patterns
Assist with internal prototype cutting and sewing team to execute sewn prototypes that meet client specifications
Assist with internal manufacturing team to transition product from development into production
